$BONK, the beloved Solana memecoin is back. A Doge-styled memecoin called $BONK was airdropped to the Solana ecosystem last December, in the aftermath of the Sam Bankman-Fried downfall. The vibes were particularly bad for Solana at this time because of SBF’s ties to the token, and $BONK was used to pay developers in this heavy bear market moment. In May, unrelated to $BONK, Solana released a phone. Yes, a beep beep, buzz buzz, physical, hardware phone. With this phone, you were eligible to receive a 30M $BONK airdrop. This week, Coinbase listed $BONK on their exchange, sending $BONK prices through the roof. Today, this 30M $BONK airdrop to the Solana phone is actually worth more than the phone itself, and they are sold out. Who could’ve called that?! Not me. Some people who are trading $BONK on crazy leverage did though, turning $170K into $10M. Merry BONKmas! Good memes need reasons to be loved and stay lindy and $BONK certainly meets this criteria.

Ledger hack. A “drainer attack” hit the timeline this week, affecting hardware wallet company Ledger. A former Ledger employee was phished, giving hackers access to the Ledger code repository. The hackers then spun up a new, malicious codebase for Ledger Connector and uploaded it to the official code repository, which was subsequently used by several dApps like SushiSwap and Zapper. When users attempted to connect their wallets to these dApps, a fraudulent connection popup would overlay the legitimate one, and if a user inadvertently signed this fake popup, their wallet could be completely drained. In other words, this is basically what happened. Ledger resolved the issue quickly, and about $650K was stolen.

Tr*mp NFTs. Sorry to report, Trump NFTs are back and truly worse than ever with a bizarre promotional video that left us all asking, was that AI-generated? This is Trump’s third NFT drop, and in what I consider an act of poetic justice, original holders are pissed because this new collection dilutes the value of the first two drops. This collection, The Mugshot Edition, is phygital - in the most insane way possible. If you purchase all 47 NFTs, you are mailed a cut-out piece of the suit he wore in his infamous mugshot. ‘Give it to your grandchildren,’ Trump encourages. Buyers of the full collection are also sentenced invited to Mar-A-Lago for a gala dinner. The imagery in the collection itself is worthy of a dissertation, showing Trump in various hypermasculine forms (reminiscent of “Make it More”) with captions like “America’s Superhero.” He signs off his promotional video, hilariously, with “have a good life.”
