JesusGPT, AI gaslighting and a touch of blasphemy

Jesus take the wheel. JesusGPT is a thing now. The app allows users to converse with a variety of biblical characters including the apostles, prophets, and the Main Man himself. This is a spiritual upgrade from the single-character “Ask Jesus” AI on Twitch that we wrote about a few months back. JesusGPT features a premium version where for $2.99/month users can tithe chat with the biblical A-listers, including Satan. Reader, do tell, what phase of late-stage capitalism is this?

Gone rogue. Snapchat’s MyAI had a lil’ delulu sesh last week when it suddenly posted a photo of what appeared to be a ceiling to its Snap story. As the weird post started spreading around social media, users started asking the chatbot about the mysterious photo and received widely different responses. Some conversations said it was a “spooky ghost prank”. Some users refused to answer, citing a technical glitch. And one even claimed it wasn’t their story, or tried to change the subject. We’ve seen a lot of this lately!

Uniquely human. A U.S. judge ruled that only human-created art can be copyrighted, not AI-generated pieces. This decision impacts the indie art scene and Hollywood alike amidst an ongoing strike over AI's role in art. The case began with a 2018 Copyright Office rejection of an AI artwork on the grounds that “the nexus between the human mind and creative expression” is key to protecting one’s work. If AI isn't the answer for originality, perhaps ayahuasca is!
