Move over co—star. Q*, pronounced Q star, was reported to be the breakthrough that led to the breakup for OpenAI (or is the appropriate term a “break”?). While OpenAI has declined to comment on the accuracy of the story, the speculation is that Q* is a new model that can solve grade-school math problems. ChatGPT can do that already, you might think. Well, what (reportedly) makes Q* different is that it’s a reinforcement learning algorithm, meaning it learns on its own, which makes it different from ChatGPT, and could be a critical step toward achieving artificial general intelligence. Rumors are that OpenAI’s board of directors feared the risk that Q* could “learn” to act in ways that are unethical, deceptive and/or harmful to humanity. But again, that is speculation. We still don’t know why the original OpenAI Board — now replaced by a new board of Larry Summers, Bret Taylor, and previous board member Adam D’Angelo — ousted Sam. And maybe we never will.

Everybody Loves Karpathy. If, like us, you’re still feeling hazy on how LLMs work, have no fear. OpenAI cofounder and gigabrain Andrej Karpathy dropped “The Busy Person’s Intro to LLMs” video designed for all of us who identify as curious and non-technical. A down-to-earth Andrej simplifies complex topics, laughs about bugs, and delivers relatable analogies. The tech world is calling it the “best YouTube video I’ve watched this year,” and I am calling it my new love language.

Grok, Grok. Who’s there? The latest (and perhaps most cringe) AI chatbot is Elon Musk’s GrokAI — and X Premium+ users may have full access to it as early as this week. According to Musk, GrokAI will be integrated directly into X with its own side tab where users can toggle between regular mode and fun mode (cue the “I’m not a regular mom” meme). With access to real-time content on X, GrokAI promises to serve up the latest misinformation with unfiltered, unhinged banter that other AI chatbots would flag as content violations. Blessing or curse? We’ll find out soon.

AI helps streamline every step of the supply chain, from analyzing and plotting delivery routes with input from real-time traffic and weather conditions, to forecasting regional demand for warehouse inventories - which get sorted by AI-enabled robots. The result? An order-to-dispatch time of 11 minutes (!!) at same-day facilities; in other words, your holiday deliveries arriving at your door quicker than ever before.
