Crypto Basel by Blake Finucane. The vibecession was paused in Miami this week, with MFers coming out in droves to party, buy art, and sit in traffic. In addition to being a Jeff Bezos vacation destination, Art Basel is also a crypto event now, from the viral Tezos #tezpole moment, to Base House to Christie’s digital art sale and partnership with NFT Now, to the Boys Club Zine launch ofc. AI artist (and Zine 01 contributor!) Sasha Stiles got a key speaking slot at the Art Basel main fair with one of the most influential and well known curators in the world, Hans Ulrich Obrist (currently at Serpentine) where they discussed the legacy of video art pioneer Naim June Paik. Solana is making moves with its own booth at Art Basel called “Artists in Residence.” All in, lots of zero interest rate energy on the streets of Miami.

$25M Card Game. Someone is going absolutely ham buying up Magic the Gathering cards, presumably to launder money get really good at playing the game! According to this wild thread by king of the blockchain sleuths @ZachXBT, someone has withdrawn $25M from Tornado Cash, and spent most of it overpaying for Magic the Gathering trading cards. They’re using multiple crypto addresses, multiple currencies and a broker to facilitate the purchases of “starter decks, alpha sets and sealed boxes.” @ZachXBT’s evidence suggests that these funds may have originated from the 2021 Uranium Finance hack. Watch out Magic the Gathering fans, Gary Gensler is watching!
