gm,

Our weekly livestream is starting right now. Today we’re talking with legendary internet culture reporter Katie Notopoulos about her experience at a crypto conference and also talking to the CEO of Polygon Labs Marc Boiron about their new DeFi chain.

RIP “email jobs.” Legendary tech analyst Mary Meeker’s new trends piece just dropped, and it’s a 340-page report charting the meteoric adoption and investment in AI across industries.

Perfect timing really, as my AI and jobs anxiety have hit an all-time high.

Goldman Sachs calls it “labor displacement.” Axios prefers “white-collar bloodbath.” Call it a redistribution of jobs. Call it an annihilation of jobs. Whatever the framing, change is coming and “email work” feels most vulnerable. The inbox, that soft underbelly of modern life. Ground zero. 🔪

NVIDIA co-founder Jensen Huang said, “Every job will be affected, and immediately. It is unquestionable.”

Okay.

I choose to be mostly optimistic about technology, but I’m also starting to seriously plan for where I want my family to be in the world when we’re ‘post-work.’ Does a mid-sized American city make sense in a new economic reality? Should I pivot to building a local services business like a laundromat or car wash? Will people have the disposable income to wash their cars? Will cars..? Am I spiraling?

This is an actual tab open on my browser rn.

Am i going to buy a profitable HVAC business in Memphis?

I think we’ll look back at the 2010s and early 2020s and think, wow to be young and alive and working on a MacBook Air from a coffee shop. Alexa, play Hotline Bling. The ZIRP easy money era will have nothing on these heady ‘pre-AI’ times.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said, “Cancer is cured, the economy grows at 10% a year, the budget is balanced — and 20% of people don’t have jobs.”

I’m so, so hopeful for how AI could transform medicine, healthcare, education, transportation - the list goes on and on. I believe that many lives could be saved and meaningfully improved with the right expression of the technology. But that future is threatened if the short-term impact of AI is jobs loss and content slop.

In the meantime, I’m thinking of starting a Telegram group for car wash owners, DM me to be added.

Stablecoin Season Continues. Palmer Luckey, the co-founder and CEO of defense firm Anduril, invested in a new stablecoin startup called Atticus, rumored to have a $1.5B valuation. No website or Twitter for the company. Smash. However, you can cold DM the founders on LinkedIn (Jacob Hirshman and Owen Rapaport) to ask for your next email job. Related, Circle’s IPO is rumored to be 25X oversubscribed.

Quick Hits.
