In reporting this story, I had to make the trip to LinkedIn dot com, which is where Google’s Head of Web3 Strategy posted the announcement of their intention to build the Google Cloud Universal Ledger. The chart, drafted in comic sans, outlines the value prop for Google’s layer-1 next to Arc (Circle) and Tempo (Stripe), and it basically comes down to its supposed neutrality, as it won’t be tied to any one payment ecosystem. That said, if anyone reading this newsletter considers Google to be credibly neutral, please respond and lmk.
Onchain Crimes. Big news for the worst person you know. Ye (formerly Kanye West) dropped a Solana coin called YZY last Thursday. It shot to a $3B market cap within about 40 minutes, but is now down bad, having lost over 80% of its value. The insiders? They’re trading. The wallets? They’re consolidated. The website drafts grand plans for a ‘YZY payment ecosystem’ including a crypto payments processor called ‘Ye Pay’ and a non-custodial debit card called ‘Ye Card.’ Idk. The crime is so abundant in this story that there was a second coin launched via Ye’s hacked Instagram on Monday that turned out to be fake.
