Binancé. A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? Four billion dollars. That is the fine that Binance (pronounced, Beh-nance) is paying to the Department of Justice for failing to report 100,000s of suspicious transactions from sanctioned countries and organizations including Hamas and North Korea, among other things. General consensus is that this ruling is a net positive for the crypto industry - a way to turn a page on an era marked by bad behavior, and move on. It’s important to note that this isn’t a fatal blow to Binance, and they’ll continue to operate, presumably as a regulated entity at least in the US. Without CZ at the helm. Yet, this is a nuanced story. Binance enabled money laundering from very bad actors. They also operated in a yeehaw, lawless, wild west way which hurt the industry and led to unfair advantages. Full stop. But, it’s also a de facto global bank for over a hundred million people around the world, including normal, regular individuals who just so happen to live in sanctioned countries. This seems like a good time to brush up on the concept of US sanctions overreach outlined here and also here. The US gov’t is having a whale of a time with crypto right now, see also Kraken’s SEC case. It’s regulation szn friends, who will be on the chopping block next?

Inflated Corporate IP. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a uniquely American media spectacle, a consumerist Bloomin’ Onion if you will. For those unfamiliar, the 5 hr #sponcon festival features big corporate balloons, Wonder bread themed advertisements floats and feel good Pfizer ads. And protests. Ofc, it’s all a psyops to buy more stuff at Macy’s. NFT projects are now welcome to spend their treasury money here, and they are. Wake me up when tripleS, the decentralized K-pop idol group, is performing on 34th street.

Warps. You can now buy Warps on Warpcast, which is a Farcaster social media app. Warps function like loyalty points, akin to frequent flier miles, redeemable for activities like signing up for other Farcaster apps, minting exclusive NFT collaborations, and potentially buying things like event tickets. The points only work in the context of the Farcaster universe - gamblers and speculators, not welcome. Sustainable revenue? Could it be?
