We’re going live now to talk about the SSENSE bankruptcy news, a viral Labubu app, Meek Mill’s AI tool, and more.

The Everything Exchange. Coinbase recently announced that they will be joining the prediction market supercycle, by integrating prediction markets into their offering. This, they hope, will position Coinbase as a one-stop shop for trading all onchain assets, including tokenized stocks and real-world assets, not just crypto. Jesse Pollack said Coinbase aims to become people’s “primary financial account.”

Re: prediction markets, my question is thus - will they buy/partner or build? Partnering (with, say, Kalshi or Polymarket) accelerates time to market, compliance and liquidity, while building gives Coinbase full UX control and deeper cross-sell into tokenized assets. If I’m Kalshi or Polymarket (or DraftKings, for that matter) I’m hoping to get that call, however Coinbase Ventures did just invest in a “onchain, permissionless and regulated” prediction market startup called The Clearing Company which might be their play.

Either way, prediction markets drive daily traffic even for non-bettors to check out odds on hot markets. Assuming Coinbase is looking to build the ‘mall’ of trading, prediction markets will act as their food court, keeping folks hanging around even if just to get a whiff of an Auntie Anne’s pretzel.
