An allegedly leaked internal memo from a researcher at Google posits that neither firm has any sort of moat, and both will lose to the unstoppable, unbounded force of the open-source community. Seems like Grimes is having a similar existential crisis since open-sourcing her artistry.

Pivot! The “Godfather of AI,” a man who received a Ph.D. in artificial intelligence 45 God-given years ago, has left a big gig at Google so he can go off on the risks of the tech. The Godfather’s concerns center around robots becoming smarter than humans, AI displacing jobs more quickly than we can adapt, and gnarly deepfakes. The concerns are concerning.

The Midjourney Glam Squad. Twitter timelines have been flooded with gorgeous (lol) images courtesy of the newest edition of the AI-generated image program, Midjourney. Early reviews of version 5.1 claim it’s more natural and photorealistic, raising the quality bar for both image models and professional photographers alike. It still can’t draw hands, so it looks like we’re stuck drawing those manually.
