Wu-Tang. You can pay $1 (or .00028 ETH) for access to a secret, high-concept Wu-Tang album, “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.” The lore runs deep, and I’ll do my best to keep it brief. The TLDR is that after its creation, pharma bro Martin Shkreli purchased it, then he went to jail for securities fraud and his assets were seized. Art collective PleasrDAO then bought it at auction, but the rights of the purchase dictated that it couldn’t be played publicly for 88 years. So, PleasrDAO is selling digital album collectibles for $1 each, with each sale bringing the ‘listen date’ incrementally forward. All proceeds from the sale are split with every artist involved in the making of the album. There was a vibey listening event in NYC last weekend. Martin Shkreli is thriving, moisturized, in his lane, etc. as the villain of this story. It’s all hitting mainstream press, and people might be hating crypto a little less as a result? Smart people also tell me that the smart contract is a DN404 which means the album collectible is v. tradable because it can live on both NFT and ERC-20 rails.
