the internet's first Conclave

Pope Idol?

gm,

This is me next week, except replace ‘club’ with ‘tech event.’

First, we’ll be in San Francisco getting our minds changed about Worldcoin at their At Last event with co-founders Alex Blania and Sam Altman.

Then FarCon.

Then THE NET GALA in support of the Lower Eastside Girl’s Club presented by Polygon.

Will we see you there?

Bye!

We are headed to the Avalanche Summit next month in London to see speakers like Meltem Demirors of Crucible Capital and Haseeb Qureshi of Dragonfly Capital. Will we see you there?

Conclave (2025). The upcoming Pope vote has taken the internet by storm, fueled by the terminally online and their parasocial relationship with Conclave, the film (2024) and its endless fan edits and spin-offs.

WIRED reported on the tech of the actual Conclave, which is surprisingly low given how much secrecy surrounds the vote — think signal jammers and covers on the windows. As for the rest of us on the internet? Well, we’ve lost our minds. There’s a Polymarket on the frontrunners. There’s social media campaigning, including a Brat edit.

And an official endorsement from ‘Pope Crave.’

There’s fashion commentary. There’s a dark but of-the-moment memecoin. As a result, numbers are way up on movie viewership, good for its star actor and notorious thirst trapper Ralph Fiennes.

This internet moment isn’t a celebration of Catholicism, necessarily. Some critics called the film ‘anti-Catholic’ for its portrayal of a powerful but aged institution finding its way in a modern world. But it’s that exact theme which is fueling the online reaction: one of the world’s oldest and most revered institutions is colliding with the absurdity of the internet. A convergence of film fiction and reality.

Plus, for many fans, myself included, it was more a story about gossiping with your work besties in gorgeous frocks.
