OpenSea is still around? After all that?
IMO the OpenSea SEC case is not the most existential issue facing NFTs in our Year of our Lord 2024. Security or not, v1 of The Great NFT experiment failed by many metrics, and I think it’s important for this industry to look at that squarely.

Look, intellectually I get it. The innovation of NFTs is about creating a new primitive of ownership that could (will???) transform the way that we connect and transact online. It creates an ownership layer to a notoriously slippery and extractive internet.
Net positive.
Potentially transformational.
Currently toxic.

Even Tr*mp has pivoted to ‘Digital Trading Cards’ (and is pocketing the cash.)
I know there are smart, well-intentioned people and projects (like Zora) working to create better experiences for creators and collectors. I think this (and more) is the experimentation that absolutely should be funded and happening.
But we’re not out of the woods yet. It’s not just about renaming ‘NFTs.’ It’s about building tools and platforms with the tech where the outcomes are:
1) sustainable value creation (a long term view)
2) the value flows to the edges of the networks (people over platforms)
3) the incentives for participation are driven by interest and affinity first, financialization and speculation second
What’s the vision for NFTs in 2024? Dreamers, I’ll leave you with this.
